Join Hampton Roads Pride on...
The intent of the project is to create a durable, visual and audio display of the history of the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual & Transgender community in Hampton Roads. It will consist of a chronological timeline from the 1950s to present of major events that occured in the Hampton Roads area and affected the LGBT community, with minor events noted throughout. Our Own will be a primary source for the immediate local stories with archival Virginia Pilot and Associated Press for those major events covered. An oral history collection is necessary for compilation of anectdotal data. This will illustrate how events on a national scale affected LGBT persons here in Hampton Roads. These interviews will be audio or videotaped for presentation or archived for any future research. Archival television footage will be solicited from the local news stations.
